Microsoft has launched So.cl, a social networking service, a few days back. However, if you think that it is going to compete with Facebook and Google Plus and eradicate it completely, then you might be wrong partially. Microsoft has even exclaimed that it is not launching this particular service to compete with any social networking sites. I think this Social Network also proved me a great source for my site, where I talk about Nuance and Eltima coupon.
What is So.cl?
Social being abbreviated as “So.cl” is nothing but a social networking service which actually tends to help the students to expand and broaden their knowledge and educational experience. This being an experimental research project created by the FUSE Labs of Microsoft focuses mainly on dealing with the potential of the social search for the principle of learning.
Here are some of the notable features of So.cl –
It helps users to discover and communicate the web pages that they find to be interesting in nature with others.
It enables the user to generate posts by accumulating a mixture of visual content present on the web.
To enable the user to interact and collaborate in a different manner, So.cl is offering them with many options such as sharing the media, especially sharing videos in real time through “video parties.”
The main aim of Microsoft is to enable the students to go on with their social network usage on sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, however make them to reimagine things that they do in their day to day lives in terms of searching, studying and sharing them with others.
The users will be able to share videos, text and photos with other users. They can also look for students with same interests and construct communities around precise educational objectives.
People who can join
For now, Microsoft has partnered with some educational institutions such as New York University, Syracuse University and University of Washington. They have planned to expand the network to more schools in the interim.
However, you can also be a part of the FUSE Labs research community, if you wish, by just mailing them at Socl@microsoft.com.
Working pattern of So.cl
The search function of this website is powered by Bing. Students always tend to search for similar content, and share the information amongst them. Their search results might include images, videos or web pages. They make use of social networking sites to spread the word. This is where So.cl tries to experiment by allowing the students to share a particular link as they make a search on Bing. Public Bing API’s are used to exhibit the search result information.
Video party feature
Most of the students have a habit of sharing videos. So.cl makes it possible for them to share them with their So.cl friends who are currently online. In other words, video parties allow the members to search and accumulate a set of videos to be watched along with their friends. The user can view already existing video parties which was made by some So.cl member, or create a new one on their own, and have an easy chat with other members of So.cl website.
The search results generated and posts created by a So.cl user remains to be public unless and until they change the option to be “private”. The public data can be viewed by every other So.cl user. To know more about So.cl privacy, visit their privacy statement page.
So if you are asking what is so new about So.cl, then the answer can be nothing or everything. It doesn’t seem to offer something that can never be done on Facebook or Google Plus etc. But there is always a specialization factor attached with every service. So you can say that having a video party with friends is really something new on the table.
